Modified bitumen is an asphalt-based, rolled-roofing process. In this technique, the plastic modifier Atactic Polypropylene (APP) is added to the asphalt which covers the roofing layers, giving the roof plastic-like properties.
The Benefits of APP Modified Bitumen Roofs
- Durable and thick; an excellent option for high-traffic areas
- Often the best option for roofing areas that tend to "pond," or hold a large amount of water for sustained periods
- A high-quality roofing product that eliminates roof leakage
- Can be aluminum coated for increased energy efficiency
- APP provides the roof with increased UV-resistance
A torch-applied system is used to install APP modified bitumen roofs. While this process does involve some fire hazard, the risk is greatly lowered when installed by trained professionals. All Bert Dorr Roofing employees are experienced with torch-down best practices and have been trained on proper safety procedures.
